It’s the cumulative effect of many mindless moments that eventually tips us off balance for we are naturally even-keeled, equanimous.
If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath – Amit Ray
We want to believe that it”s the big things that get us undone but the big things themselves are almost always the cumulative effect of small things – the odd word here, the silence there, the withdrawal, the sarcasm, the worry, the avoidance, the doubt, the distrust.
These are the days that must happen to you – Walt Whitman
All these have a way of gathering themselves into an emotional time bomb causing us to explode in rage and violence or implode in depression and hopelessness.
Daily meditation practice helps restore our natural state of balance, of equipoise, well before things have a chance of getting big and out of hand. Better yet, an ongoing mindfulness ensures that we are mostly in the here and now in which negativity of any kind is denied a foothold.
Interested in Mentoring?
EACH MONTH, I work with a small number of people (about 6) in a mentoring capacity. It is highly personalized and uses a body-centred phenomenological (lived experience rather than theoretical) approach and draws on mindfulness and reflective practices. If this sounds interesting to you, you can find out more here.
