If you are very attentive

If you’re very attentive
The wind may call you today
To come out and be its playmate
So it can scatter your hair here and there

Across your face and against your cheeks
And over your eyes
And upon the city air
While you, with your body, can carve out caves in its path
As your arms and legs open rivers
And your fingers make rivulets in it

If you are very attentive
The late afternoon sun
Will show you what gold really is and how it collects silently upon the fine branches and waiting leaves of the eucalyptus

If you are very attentive
The grand old figs
Will show you how affectionately and abundantly you’re cared for
As you walk under their thick canopies and drooping branches

If you are very attentive
The grass will show you
How lavishly mother earth provides for you
And not because you merit it

If you are very attentive
The river will show you
How easily and endlessly Life would flow in you, through you, as you
If only you’d let it
